  11. Problems/assignments

Navigation

  1. Topic Navigator will display chapters; sections w/in chapters will defined as sub-topics) (sections defined by first order headers)
    1. Note: while utilizing current platform capability, this creates a problem: sections within chapter should flow seamlessly together, but defining sections as topics generates a topic landing page format; different format needed to insure easy readability
  2. Ability to page forward and backward
    1. Functionality and user experience should be consistent with current best practices for reading lengthy text online
  3. Ability on section landing page to jump to previous/next section
  4. Ability to move from any page to beginning of any section w/in a chapter

Search

  1. Ability to search within book
  2. Results from search show not take you away from page you are on (perhaps a drop down list beneath search box)
  3. Clicking on search result takes you that page

Content creation:

  1. WYSIWYG text editor
  2. Ability to create equations
  3. Ability to use images, video, and audio files
  4. Need better table editor than current editor which demands HTML knowledge; needs more “drag and drop” functionality to format tables
  5. Asset manager
    1. Ability to load images, video, audio files into resource or asset library
    2. Ability to tag each resource with metadata
    3. Keyword or tags
    4. Legend
    5. Source
    6. Copyright
    7. Other metadata TBD
  6. Images
    1. Image in text should be clickable thumbnail that expands (see Wikipedia)
    2. Should have basic WYSIWYG capability for figure caption (bold, italics, hyperlink, etc.)
    3. Figure caption needs to wrap so as to conform to horizontal width of figure itself
  7. Ability to search for existing resources by keyword and insert into text withing WYSIWYG text editor

Glossary manager

  1. need ability to edit existing terms
  2. searching for term hides all terms other than target; need ability to refresh or "show all" after a search
  3. case sensitivity bug; the term "deforestation" is defined in glossary;  sentence in text begins "Deforestation is caused by..."  When "Deforestation" is placed in brackets, the capital D is converted to lower case in the saved text, producing a grammatical error.
  4. need ability to see enitre text of definition in the editing box as you enter it; it cuurently runs off the side of the box
  5. need redirect function:  if glossary entry is "deforestation," need ability to have "deforested" in text pull up defintion of deforestation, etc.
  6. need ability to autogenerate and present an entire glossary for an article, a chapter, and for an entire book;  for example, the Topic "Glossary" in the navigator here http://www.trunity.net/envsci/topics/view/74626/ should collect all the glossary terms defined for Chapter 1 (expand Chapter 1 to see sub topics--Glossary is at bottom)
  7. need abilty in saved text to distinguish hyperlink that denotes a glossary entry from other types of hyperlinks (maybe use color to do this?)
  8. remove redundancy in pop-up box:  don't need "defintion" and "definition for"
  9. need CK tpye editor for editing definitions

Exam Manager

  1. need CK editing capabilities, including ability to add images and equations
  2. need ability create master test bank from which exams for chapter sections, chapters, or groups of chapters can be generated
  3. need to support short answer questions
  4. need ability to duplicate and then edit a question
  5. need user support/help documentation

Assignments

  1. need CK editing capabilities, including ability to add images and equations
  2. clicking on Manage Assignments takes you to Grade Book; these are different things; that action should take you to an Assignment Manager page just like Exam Manager
  3. need easier way to attach a downloadable document, rather than having to go through the CK editor

User

  1. Ability for individual user to “own” personal copy of vBook
  2. Ability to create “sticky notes,” or type of notes page that user can associate with a particular section of text
    1. Ability to access all notes from central location organized by chapter; clicking on note takes user to page associated with note
  3. Bookmarks
    1. Ability to come back to where you left off
    2. Ability to create/organize/access multiple bookmarks
    3. Ability to access all bookmarks from central location organized by chapter
  4. Ability to download PDF of chapter with text and images

 Other

  1. Ability to autogenerate hyperlinked list of figures in chapter that are accessible from chapter home page; probably want master list in Navigartor; autogenerate means list is generated as you create/inset images in text
