Our Mission 

Washington Stat UU Voices for Justice seeks to empower Unitarian Universalists in Washington State to give voice to our values in the political arena. We strive to:

• Create a politically informed statewide network
• Maintain a regular and effective UU presence in the legislative process
• Promote clear priorities and focused, effective statewide action
• Do our part to create a just and sustainable world community

Our Beginnings

In 2005 the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee in Boston, Massachusetts asked that Jerome Chroman and Corinne Kelly, members of the University Unitarian Church, Seattle, consider applying for a five year grant to establish a progressive legislative network in Washington State. The network was to be grounded in the life and priorities of Washington UU congregations and to bring our collective voices and shared religious values to political and public issues. They applied for and received funding in July 2005. In Spring 2006 Olympia Unitarian Universalist Congregation became UU Voices fiscal sponsor.
In its initial two years, Washington UU Voices was guided by a steering committee. At Washington UU Voices' first annual meeting in June 2007, attendees adopted bylaws and elected a board of directors to guide the organization's operation.
