URI Global Council Chair Yoland Trevino attended the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York from May 15-22 to represent URI's Global Indigenous Initiative. Her third year attending this event, Trevino used the opportunity to strengthen ties with North American indigenous communities, connect with policy-makers and activist from around the world and explore new partnerships for the Initiative. In addition to the forum, Trevino attended several side events on the issues faced by Aboriginal peoples in Australia and a meeting on the 2012 Earth Summit in Rio.
