During this week, Mussie officially introduced URI tothe President, Prime Minister and Minster of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso.He also introduce URI to the Traditional Leader of BurkinaFaso, His Majesty the Mogho Naaba Bâogho and also to thedifferent religious leaders in BurkinaFaso. Three CCs also formed.
On the occasion URI Africa gave its Africa Peace Award to the President of Burkina Faso.The event was highly covered by TV, News Papers and Radio. The door iswidely opened for URI inBurkina Faso andthis event also open the door for URI movement in French Speaking countries in Africa and West Africa Countries.

PRESIDENT OF BURKINAFASO RECEIVES THE AFRICAPEACE AWARD
UnitedReligions Initiative (URI) Africa presented its Africa Peace Award to H.E.Blaise COMPAORE, President of Burkina Faso who is also the current chairman of Economic Community of West Africa, in recognition of his exemplary andinspirational leadership in bringing development, democracy, politicalstability, and peace in Burkina Faso and for his outstanding contribution to promoting regional integration and making peace in West Africa, especially inmediating the Inter-Togolese Dialogue and brokering the peace agreement in Coted`Ivoire.
Mussie Hailu, URI Regional Coordinator for Africa presented the award to the Presidenton December 16, 2008 at the Presidential Palace in Ouagadougou,Burkina Faso in the presenceof the Prime Minster of Burkina Faso, Foreign Affairs Minster of Burkina Faso,Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Ethiopiaand Representative of Members of URI in Burkina Faso.
On the occasion of handing over the Award to the President, Mussie said "URIstrongly believes in the importance of good leadership to build peace in Africa as good governance and peace are indivisible.Without good governance no amount of fund and charity will set Africa on the path to prosperity, peace and politicalstability.Good governance is at theheart of sustainable peace, development and the alleviation of poverty. Withoutpeace there can be no long-term development and without good governance thereis seldom peace. It is with in mind that URI Africa is acknowledging theoutstanding leadership of President Compaore. The renaissance of the Burkinabepeace, democracy, development and political stability is marked by theconviction and determination of President Compaore leadership."He further said that President Compaore hasendeavored to find a solution to the problems ofBurkina Faso and promoting theGolden Rule since he took office and is fully committed to peace,reconciliation and dialogue as a means of resolving political disputes,conflicts and crises.
After receiving the award President Compaore said, "I thank URI for thiswonderful honor and acknowledge their great work of promoting a culture ofpeace, justice and healing.As religion play a major role in promoting peace and reconciliation I am so happy to learnthat there is such organization like URI which is working for peace andinterfaith harmony by bringing different religions and faith traditions to worktogether for the betterment of our world. I also appreciate the work of URI Africa in building bridge with all stake holders in the effort of promoting aculture of peace, interfaith harmony, trust and partnership. I look forward toworking closely with URI to bring more peace, justice, healing and reconciliation in the world.This award belongs not only to me but to the people of Burkina Faso and all those people who are working with me for the cause of peace.This will encourage us to continue our efforts to promote peace in thecountry, in the region and in the world.Peace is not only the absence of war.Peace is necessary for our survival.Peace is the core of our existence.As a leader, it is my duty to serve my people and to make sure thatpeople are able to live in peace and harmony.
