These two clever young designers in Portland, Oregon have an amazing line of furniture made from repurposed materials such as discarded bleachers and lockers from local schools to steel railroad plates chucked out when the trains stopped running.
Here´s what Alissa and Leela have to say about their upcycled furniture and some of the pieces they can custom create for their clients:
This furniture has a history.
Upcycling utilizes materials otherwise left behind, rendered useless in their original intent. By creating new pieces made of reclaimed barnwood, retired school bleachers, vintage locker baskets and salvaged steel piping, we give industrial materials slated as waste a new purpose: upcycled furniture. Each unique piece is derived from found items, sourced and fabricated locally. The design of this furniture has stemmed from our love for the modern aesthetic and our passion for the history and character of reclaimed materials. Hammer & Hand has collaborated with bright designlab to produce these lines of upcycled furniture. These salvaged and reclaimed materials are now being handcrafted into meticulously designed, locally fabricated, modern industrial furniture.

STaCK is industrial modern; made up of a stack of steel piping, reclaimed bleachers and vintage locker baskets and enclosed in colorful cubes. it is a shelving system compiled of bleachers from local universities that students sat on for years, locker baskets that were slammed after every PE class, and boxes painted in clean, modern color in contrast to the rough character of the reclaimed materials. STaCK is built to order and can be customized to fit your needs.

BARcode is purely industrial modern. Every piece is reclaimed; from the steel railroad plates, to the truss bolts and the bleachers salvaged from local schools. Due to the nature of the found components of this piece there are a limited number of editions available. The length and height of BARcode can be customized, as each piece is built to order.
