Deaccession Reinventions
| Topics: | |
Flavorwire, the companion blog to Flavorpill event listing emails, had an amazing post (via Modern Art Notes) yesterday on the upcycling project of LA-based artist Robert Fontenot. Apparently when he heard the Los Angeles County Museum of Art was about to enact the "deaccession" of a large quantity of costumes and textiles in their collection, he scooped up a number of pieces at auction and has been making fabulous new things out of them ever since. The project is chronicled on the artists blog. It's hard to pick a favorite, but I do love these colorful aprons reinvented from a Korean skirt. I also dig that Fontenot embroiders the museum accession number onto each new piece, tagging its history. Nice touch.
