Jo Hanson's dream come true
| Topics: | |
That's a picture of Jo Hanson, the San Francisco activist (dead now) who founded the artists-in-residency program at the San Francisco dump. I posted about it on my blog, Visible Trash, but here, in case you're too lazy to click through:
Following a 1989 state law requiring all jurisdictions in California to plan to divert from landfills at least 50% of their waste by the year 2000, Jo Hanson proposed an Artist in Residence program at the San Francisco dump. Jo died in March 2007, but the visionary program she founded and nurtured lives on. Judith Selby-Lang attended her funeral and wrote about her unusual burial. Hats off to a classy lady!

Hats off indeed. Every dump needs an artist in residence program. I only know of this one and NYC's. Are there others?

Not that I know of. I want to start one somewhere.
