On Sunday, September 11th 2011, from 4:00-5:30 pm, Unity Made Visible hosted “CommUnity,” an interfaith family event of music and uplifting messages held at the Mary Lou Reese Theater at Fox Lane High School in Bedford, New York .

“For too long, we have witnessed 9/11 being used as a rallying cry for those who preach divisiveness and intolerance,” said Paul Storfer, Coordinator of UMV.  “On the upcoming 10th anniversary of this tragedy, we at Unity Made Visible want to take this day back and turn it into an opportunity for unity, compassion, education, and understanding.”

The program included multi-cultural musical selections by a CommUnity choir comprised of members of various local congregations, led by musical directors from Antioch Baptist Church, Katonah Presbyterian Church and Jewish Family Congregation. Highlights included Hineih Mah Tov, whose composer, Cantor Erik L. F. Contzius, made a special appearance to sing the solo part, and a community sing-along.

Leaders of the local community were also invited to share their reflections on the day, along with religious leaders and members of their congregations. The Upper Westchester Muslim Society offered a presentation by their youth members.

The event concluded with a World Peace Prayer Ceremony raising the flags of the nearly 200 countries of the world with the message, “May Peace Prevail on Earth.”
