Finally in Goa
POST: Finally in Goa
Well...I finally made it. After 32 hours of traveling I've arrived in Goa. Yesterday was interesting. When I first got on the plane I was super stoked to see that I had a personal touch screen TV to watch on demand movies and TV shows. The joy of the television was quickly trumped when I realized that I had young children directly in front of me and directly behind me, not to mention that there were 3 brand new babies just a few rows up that got joy out of crying the entire time.
After 2 movies, a rum and coke and a long nap we arrived in the humid Shanghai airport. The stop was supposed to only take 2 hours but unfortunately that time-frame didn't last. After just under 4 hours they told us to board the plane again where they would be making a "quick" diagnostic check and then we would leave. That quick check was a 10 hour fiasco. By the 6th hour in Shanghai they told us that we had to again deplane and wait for an update. At this time people were freaking out about their connecting flights and the 1 million children were running around screaming and playing tag. After 10 hours had passed we got back on the plane and made it to Mumbai. That's where it all went wrong.
To start, I left my Goa boarding pass in the customs area while I was filing out my information, then I dropped the tag saying I had cleared customs and could enter Goa, and then I was told that there were no more flights to Goa and I would have to stay in Mumbai until a 6:30 am flight. I eventually snuck past the customs guard and made it to the JetAirways terminal. The airlines put me up in an awesome hotel and gave me a free meal, so it wasn't all that bad. I met up with a couple from Oregon that were traveling to Calcutta and had dinner with them.
Anyway, the flight this morning was fine. I got in at 7:30 and Damien was there waiting to pick me up in a taxi. He doesn't look to much different, a little skinner maybe, but overall he seems to be doing well. I'm really glad to have finally made it, and despite the incredible humidity and heat I think its going to be a great trip.
I'm going to try to make a blog post every few days to keep the fam updated. I miss you guys, and can't wait for the HUGE party when D and I get back.
