Co-sponsored by MusicGarage.org and Sony® Creative Software®, this class teaches how to use personal computer (PC) for song creation, multi-track audio and MIDI recording. The class is taught using Sony® Music Studio® software in a school computer lab. Students may bring their laptop PC if they prefer and some students have brought MacBooks for instruction on the included Apple GarageBand® software because all of theory and techniques taught apply with GarageBand as well.

Musicians and non-musicians alike will start composing, mixing, and mastering CDs, MP3s or video soundtracks in no time - even if you've never written a song or played an instrument. This class is for all styles and levels of acoustic and electric music for composers, songwriters, filmmakers and DJs with PC skills. The recording and production theory and techniques apply to all modern recording and production.

This 12-week class is split into two six-week sessions. We recommend starting with MusicStudio I as an introduction to computer recording and production. Students may (a) use our software licenses in the computer lab, (b) download a 30-day trial from Sony or (c) purchase the software for $60 retail on-line or from a music retailer. Continue with MusicStudio II class to get the full benefit for your first projects. Materials needed: 4 GB flash drive or larger and headphones with 3.5 mm jack. Cost is $60 per session.  Instructor:  Steve Auerbach or as designated.
