Steward Application Draft

The Digital Universe

The Digital Universe is a network of subject-specific websites (called Portals) with reliable information from trusted sources covering a wide range of subjects. It is being built by experts — known as Stewards — from around the world.  These Stewards assemble the best and most reliable information available and organize it for easy access to the general public.

If you are an expert in a field and would like to become the Steward of an existing Digital Universe Website or a new Digital Universe Website in that field please sign up for a user  account and then send an email with the following information and a pdf attachment of your resume or curriculum vitae to admin@dufoundation.org.

Basic Information

  • User name
  • Real full name
  • Email address
  • Highest relevant degree(s) and subject(s)
  • Degree granting institution(s) and year(s)
  • URL of your home page if you have one
  • Current position (If relevant to the Website, otherwise optional)
  • New or existing Digital Universe Website name

New Digital Universe Website Name

This should correspond to a topic no broader than that studied by subdiscipline(s) (e.g., fundamental particles; the nature of moral principles; 19th-century French literature; probate law; role-playing games) in which you would like to work. If possible, please do not specify a discipline, but instead the topic(s) that the discipline studies (e.g. Sun, not Solar Physics). Bear in mind that website topics will eventually be very fine-grained/specialized, but that at this point we need volunteers at many levels of generality in every field. Note that you may be asked to work collaboratively with other well-qualified Stewards, particularly on more general topics; you will not necessarily be the permanent Steward for a given website.

What Next?

For a new Digital Universe Website: If the name looks reasonable and a good match with your credentials, your requested new Digital Universe Website will be created and added to the navigator. You will be added as a member of the Website with administrator privileges. The Website will be tagged as a "Digital Universe Candidate."

For an existing Digital Universe Website that is not yet being stewarded: If it looks like a good match with your credentials, you will be added as a member of the Website with administrator privileges. The Website will be tagged as a "Digital Universe Candidate."

For an existing Digital Universe Website  that is already being stewarded: If it looks like a good match with your credentials, you will be added as a member of the Website with contributor privileges. Content you post with contributor privileges will require the approval of a member with publisher, admin or owner priveleges before it is publicly visible. To "upgrade" your privileges, contact a member with owner or admin  privileges.
