Each year the Jane Goodall Institutes' "International Day of Peace Celebration" is organized by the Institutes local "Roots and Shoots" youth groups in Southern California. For the past three years Unity Foundation has provided the production management for this special event.
Last year, on September 21st (the United Nations International Day of Peace) more than 2,000 people, 50 non-profit organizations and environmental exhibitors, students, local "Roots and Shoots" groups, and celebrities came together in Griffith Park in Los Angeles to celebrate their collective efforts towards creating a more peaceful and environmentally sustainable world. The highlight of the celebration was the annual Parade of the Giant Peace Doves, which was led by actor Pierce Brosnan, his wife Keely and their two sons. Other celebrities appearing at the event included: Daryl Hannah, Gwen Stefani, and Ricky Lake. There was also musical performances by Gavin Roosdale, formerly of the band Bush, and the group Cord featuring Rami Jaffee of the Foo Fighters.
