This year was the first annual photo contest for EnvironMentors students. The photo contest is a fun way for students to show off their research and all students were encouraged to submit photos in a variety of categories including student-mentor pair, experimental research, study site, local environmental issue, and the grand prize category, a photo collage that is a reflection of your experience in EnvironMentors.
This year EnvironMentors is proud to announce the grand prize winner in the category of Photo Collage to Olga Kachur from the University of California at Davis chapter. Olga is a freshman at Highlands Academy of Art and Design and also the recipient of the Patrick Lalley Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Biodiversity and Wildlife Conservation Research for her research on the affect of salinity levels on native and invasive plant species. Olga has won a new digital camera.
EnvironMentors is also proud to announce Maddie McAlister, from the University of Nebraska, as runner-up in the Photo Collage category. Maddie is a junior at Lincoln High School and is the recipient of the 2nd place Award for Excellence in Environmental Science Research for her project on effective ways to manage the feral cat population. Maddie will be receiving a $100 gift card to Amazon.
Great job to both Maddie and Olga!
