This site is planned as the future home for the Earth Portal, a gateway for information and social networking related to all aspects of the environment-society relationship. The Earth Portal has two broad types of content. The first is authoritative, peer-reviewed information such as the Encyclopedia of Earth, which is written and governed by scientists, educators, and professionals working in a unique collaborative environment, with oversight from a distinguished International Advisory Board. The second is the Earth Portal Community, an international directory and networking platform for organizations and individuals in the civil society sector to collaboratively define, address, and solve social and environmental problems.
The Earth Portal provides the means bring these two broad types of content, people, and organizations together in ways that traditional scholarly and social networking communities cannot produce in isolation form each other.
