How often do you find that you compare yourself to another person?Or in the heat of the moment compare someone you may be upset with to another person you are not?Comparing can be useful and it can be destructive.Comparing by its very nature produces a winner and a loser.Comparing is a tool and just like a screwdriver has a specific purpose.I have to ask the question “When comparing myself to someone else who am I trying to make the winner and at what cost?”We need to be careful about what we are really trying to accomplish, more importantly, aware of our specific intent.
When buying a new car, comparing can be a very useful tool. Comparing helps in creating perceived relative value. Perceived Relative Value (PRV) belongs in the realm of “things”.“Things” are defined here as items with no, or very little, internal “space” or consciousness. The more the internal space, the less PRV applies. The less PRV applies the more we approach infinite value.
Now, when comparing people, what we are really doing is comparing their attributes in order to accomplish a specific task. For example, when choosing which candidate to hire for a position we compare their applicable attributes.Attributes are things. Things have PRV.It is all external stuff.
When it comes to relationships we tend to value people based on an intrinsic value, or in other words what is on the inside.“Why?” you might ask.Well, my friend that is what holds the payoff. That is what creates depth. We don’t relate to each other through our attributes, we relate through our connection.
We can’t really compare people.People have Infinite value. So why compare yourself to someone else?Because, when we can’t perceive our infinite value we substitute PRV.That is known as “being shallow”. Only PRV can be called into question.Infinite value is untouchable. You are the only you in the whole of existence. To what can you be compared?Take comfort in the fact that you are irreplaceable and your absence leaves a void.Trust in the fact that you are where you are supposed to be and that life is trying to awaken you to your greatness. So if you aren’t feeling so great, listen.Listen to what your life is trying to tell you.Validate that information by taking it to heart and acting on it.Then go forward living in truth, resting in the reality that you are one with your purpose.Let fear take its place behind you busily comparing what is to what could have been, your senses immune to its beckoning.
YOU have infinite value, therefore you are of infinite worth.
