The UN International Day of Peace: 21 SEPTEMBER

The United Nations General Assembly declared that the International Day of Peace shall be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. It invited all Member States, the United Nations system, regional organizations, non-governmental organizations, peoples and individuals to commemorate the Day in different ways...

Young women and men everywhere are demonstrating the power of connection by reaching out to each other, and rallying together, in the common cause of the dignity and human rights to which their peoples aspire.

It is in tribute to them, and the spirit they represent, that we have chosen this year, under the overall idea of Peace and Democracy, the theme of “Make your voice heard.”

(FROM 100-DAY COUNTDOWN MESSAGE BY UN UNDER-SECRETARY-GENERAL KIYO AKASAKA)

Observe the International Day of Peace with a concert, a gathering by your Peace Pole, an interfaith event - or simply by taking a Minute of Silence at 12 noon. Post your event at www.internationaldayofpeace.org and see what people are doing on Peace Day around the world!

International Youth Summit for Peace and Justice

What is justice? How does a deep understanding of justice influence matters of peace and development?  In this 13-week online youth summit, young leaders from around the world (aged 16-24) come together to participate in one of Harvard University's most popular political philosophy courses to learn about the concept of justice. The participants discuss the topics from the course in the context of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. As a final project for the summit, the participants create a joint message that they send to the United Nations in honor of the September 21 International Day of Peace.
