The World Emotional Literacy League (WELL) announces the Kathmandu Drop-in-Centers project.

 

Due to poverty Nepal has a very high proportion of children involved in child labor. At this time there are about 2.5 million out of 6.25 million children working. Some families are so poor that without the $40-$50 per year received as payment for their child the family cannot get enough food to eat. These children, some as young as 7, are contracted jobs away from home as servants in other homes.

 

Educational development is a crucial strategy to reduce the problem of poverty and child labor in Nepal which is why the City of Kathmandu Drop-In Centers are needed. The purpose of each Drop-in Center is to provide the education that will allow children serving as indentured servants to become free of their servitude contracts.

 

Because Nepal is among the poorest countries in the world, donations are required to support this program. Our project will provide teacher training enabling the city to serve 250 children in five different centers throughout the city of Kathmandu . Your donations will provide necessary funding to hire and train these teachers as well as to provide books and other materials for the children.
