In this arena Vancouver is way ahead of many other destinations with two programs in place: Green Table and Ocean Wise.
Green Table is the brainchild of Andre Lariviere, a form food writer. Now some 40 or so restaurants can demonstrate that the are committed to some very practical goals, including:
- reducing water use by 120,000L
- diverting more than 5 tonnes of organic waste from landfill to compost
- conserving 3,000 kWh electricity and 100gj natural gas
- reducing its greenhouse gas impacts by 10 tonnes

OceanWise is a program introduced by the Vancoutover Aquarium help restaurants and their customers make environmentally friendly seafood choices. The world's oceans are rapidly losing significant marine species such the the entire planet's oceanic ecosystems are potentially sibject to collapse. Residents and visitors alike are now encouraged to enjoy their seafood in restaurants displaying the Ocean Wise symbol.
