Chaffetz is supporting a balanced budget amendment.  No surprise there.  However, voters should not be fooled into believing this means he is a member of a fiscally conservative party.  When Bush took office with a Republican Congress we had a budget surplus and we were $5 trillion less in debt.  Calling for the government to reduce spending now, in the midst of perhaps the worst financial crisis in our history, isn't just foolish but a wee bit hypocritical.  Even local economists agree cuts in federal spending now would remove the last tool in our tool box to fix the economic mess Obama and a Democratic Congress are inheriting from Republicans.
