Utah URI & the Global Healing Inititative
to Bring Fr. Centurio Olaboro From Uganda
To Help Prepare for White Band Day
The Utah URI (United Religions Initiative), the Global Healing Initiative, and Christ United Methodist Church invites the community to join them on June 23rd 7:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 2150 South Foothill Blvd., Salt Lake City, UT and become involved in the international White Band Day.
The program will feature Fr. Centurio Olaboro from Uganda, Africa and Ian Rhett from San Francisco, CA
Fr, Centurio Olaboro is a priest working with the poorest of the poor throughout Uganda.
Over the past 15 years Fr. Centurio has developed programs that now serve 819 children, most who have been orphaned by the death of their parents through HIV-AiDS.
Fr. Centurio will share his work through film, speech, and conversation on his two major projects, a vocational training effort in Busia, and Secondary School in Tororo.
These programs are providing many orphaned youth both hope and education in what others see as only a hopeless no opportunity world.
Fr. Centurio will also share his work as a member of the Commission for Peace and Justice of the Uganda Council for Churches where he has served for the past ten years.
Ian Rhett is a song writer and entertainer whose first song last fall had over one million people listen to it on the internet. He was the special music for both the National Councill of Churches closing Let Justice Roll Tour event and the Florida Interfaith event during last years elections.
The program is also intended by the Utah URI to bring attention to White Band Day
The White Band is the international symbol to show support for an end to global poverty. By wearing a White Band, persons become part of a worldwide campaign that is rallying millions of people around the world to demand that the world leaders live up to their promises to end poverty.
Celebrities such as Bono of U2, Paul McCartnery, Elton John, Brad Pitt, and Angelina Jolene are a sample of the many who are supporting the White Band Day.
The Utah URI is one of of 300 Chapters of the United Religions Initiative whose purpose is to promote daily interfaith cooperation, end religiously motivated violence, and create cultures of peace, justice and healing the Earth. The Global Healing Initiative includes a partnership with the U.N. Millennium Campaign (http://www.globalhealing.net), Christ United Methodist Church is one of the Utah URI members. Fr. Centurio leads one of the URI Cooperation Circles in Uganda.
