PPMBA: Clinton Global Initiaitve

The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) has extensive societal infrastructure in places of great need, places where the Peace Website plan calls for Access Points to be provided; a place where local economies can import wealth based on the export of information age products and access the global digital marketplace.  As a nonpartisan catalyst for action, bringing global leaders together to address the world's most pressing challenges, CGI deserves our support in areas where we have common objectives.

Peace Website, FDU, and CGI do have a shared focus point, economic empowerment through sustainable mechanisms.  As stated on the CGI website:

"The defining characteristics of the Clinton Global Initiative are its action-oriented nature and its track record of converting pioneering ideas into viable solutions with tangible results. CGI members develop ‘commitments to action’, focusing on practical, effective problem-solving measures that can be taken now. Member commitments are comprehensive, formal plans of action with timetables for evaluating progress. They are developed within one or more CGI areas of focus, which change annually to address the most imperative global issues requiring attention. We have designated education, energy & climate change, global health, and poverty alleviation as the areas of focus for 2007.

In this era of remarkable global interdependence, ensuring more equitable access to existing and future resources is a moral and practical imperative for us all."

Peace Website donations from the Trust will go to increasing of capacity, education, and technology access at current CGI locations.

One of our more innovative support projects tocompliment installation of Access Points is called SCALE, it charters a co-operative at the local level.  A cooperative is an autonomous association of persons (legal vehicle) united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations.  SCALE is a plan supported by volunteers of Ministries, other beneficiaries of the PPHT, and others.  A SCALE Co-operative provides people in the communities access to a local account that can be managed while still allowing each individual to retain individual control over the Members account.  Opportunities such as local currency creation become viable, as does accessing the information age workplace.

Working closely with the Prosperity Program, all Access Points are provided a step-by-step plan for implementing a local private community Co-operative so even craftsman who never use a computer will still be able to participate; those who do use technology to publish music, art and other digital content will import that wealth into the locally depressed economy as free trade credits.  This will address many maladies of increasing wealth for the previously poor which would otherwise, without  security precautions, put them at risk - they can't walk around with the wealth in there pockets without danger in many developing places, but they can trade digital credits at the SCALE Access Point and walk home with food, baskets, and dresses without too much fear.

It is in the developing of locally secure, digitally based economic systems, directed toward development of regional self-sustainability, that PPHT hopes to work closely with CGI. We have therefore made them a beneficiary of the Trust for projects that test various models appropriate to the mega-societal and geographic conditions of the communities served through CGI.
