The CPM rates discussed below refer to one ad. The M1 UPS will remain very clean with 3 ads per page max. These figures also do not address click-through rates. The M1 projection of an EFFECTIVE CPM of $8/CPM in year 4-10 is already below industry standards for a defined adult demographic. Many of the proposed portals will command CPM rates in the $40-$50 range.

The Colorado tourism office published 2008 rates for cooperative online advertising with travel, outdoor adventure (an M1 Lighthouse portal), health, and other topic related websites. Banner display ads start around $12/CPM.

Analyst eMarketer predicts that by 2011, $4.1 billion will be spent worldwide for social network advertising - a dramatic increase from the $480 million spent in 2006. In 2008 alone, global ad spend in the social networking arena is expected to increase 75% year over year, amounting to $2.1 billion (eMarketer, Social Network Marketing: Ad Spending and Usage, December 2007).
