Our Vision
Organizing for Haiti
OFH Vision Statement
We believe that it is an inherent need and human right of all people to be self-defining and self-determining. The Haitian people as a result of blockades, extortion, economic exploitation, occupation, and despotic leadership have been condemned to poverty and world pity. We believe that as catastrophic as the 2010 earthquake has been, that it also offers an opportunity for the Haitian people to reclaim their dignity and power of spirit that freed them 200 years ago. We further believe that the Haitian people, the first black free nation in the Western Hemisphere have the capacity to free themselves from the charity and dependence upon others. The spirit of the Haitian people demands change and we believe that now is the time for Haiti to be reborn as a strong, united, independent, and free nation. It is our belief that this change can only come from the people themselves, and through grassroots organizations which must play a major and pivotal role in the rebuilding and renewal of Haiti.
