This is a book of tragedy and a book of hope. The first half of book documents the terrible events of January 12, 2010. The second half celebrates the life and vitality of Haiti through photographs of scenes of life in Haiti and through the paintings of some of Haiti's most talented artists.
Foreword by Lahiny PierreLahiny Pierre was born in Jacmel, south of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Her first public presentations date back to pre-school years at Kindergarten Marie Carline. At the age of fourteen she reunited with her parents in Brooklyn and finished her academic studies. She is a graduate of the State University of New York at Potsdam. Ms. Pierre taught high school English in the New York City schools for six years and served as an adjunct at Stony Brook University. In 2000, she received a Long Island University's Graduate Assistantship to pursue an M.F.A. She now resides in Georgia where she is a full time Writer and Director of an art & literacy non-profit. Her literary works include poetry, literary criticism, screen plays, and two novels, both addressing the struggle of migration, loss, and coming to terms with one's story, which she believes, affects the present in multiple ways. She is the author of General Authority.
Afterword by J.F. Cummings J.F. Cummings is a researcher and consultant at a Tokyo think-tank that, through its collaborative research, consulting, and publishing efforts, works to support the full actualization of human potential and enhance the sustainability of families, communities, and nations. Cummings' major research interests include Culture-based National Planning, Cultural Literacy and its Impact on the Sustainability of Communities and Nations; and The Role of Media and Education on Values Formation. He is the author of How to Rule the World: Lessons in Conquest for the Modern Prince.
Poetry by Yolaine M. St. Fort Yolaine M. St.Fort is a writer of Haitian descent. She has had fiction and/or poetry published in Downtown Brooklyn, Calabash, Prose Ax, Szirine, Poetry in Performance Anthology. She is a high school Teacher and the advisor of a literary magazine titled The Magnet.
