Survival Strategies:NEWS: MAJOR THREAT 2 - Out of the woods into the forest
Published: March 14, 2009
Considering all the dangers that stem from one's existential angst, that should be enough. You can become sick; then bankrupt from the medical costs - or just die in an accident. Unfortunately, it is not enough and such personal dilemmas are less amendable to attack. Hopefully, you will read Sidney Olgi's article on the engineering of luck and then begin strengthening your own personal situation (no matter how fragile it may be).
In terms of macro-threats to humanity, you can generate an impressive list: Gamma-ray belching black holes, super volcanoes, economic collapse, etcetera....However, after carefully winnowing the list, the one that immediately galvanizes the Montana Sanctuary's attention is the bird flu. Not only could a pandemic occur naturally; it very well could be engineered by a self-serving elite. In that case, it would be used as a last ditch effort at population control, and would undoubtedly be weaponized to maximize its killing effectiveness. (If you have an opportunity, read the news article - Failure is not an option - which describes the odd vaccine mistake made by Baxter Pharmaceutical.)
Consequently, a bird flu epidemic could occur at any time, which is certainly the greatest rationale for considering alternatives like the Montana Sanctuary. If you are trapped in a city living in an apartment, your situation will be perilous indeed. You will not be able to effectively quarantine yourself for up to 6 months (the time estimate for creating an effective vaccine) since you will not have enough food or a secured area. (The Montana Sanctuary is safely away from urban areas, and will have the resources for effecting a secure quarantine - and as a member, you will be warned in time.)
However, even if we get out of the woods - dodge the bullet - don't actually face an immediate pandemic, we are never really, truly out of the woods. The woods are dark and filled with even darker more frightening wastelands. Yes, even if the present administration is successful in avoiding a depression, the really dangerous threat - CLIMATE CHANGE - will be making much of America unlivable in the very near future: Droughts, massive forest fires, water wars will increase in ferocity. The gang populations of many cities will effectively take control of large parts of the country. Under such circumstance, your affiliation with the Sanctuary will prove an invaluable life saver.
The threats mankind is facing are not amendable to a gradualist approach, and be assured, you don't want to rely solely on the good services of government as the very fabric of society begins to rend. A change of state is required where water freezes to ice or sublimes from the supersaturated air – and you should reappraise your life strategy and begin thinking in terms of global survival goals. The Montana Sanctuary can be your new social life boat. We won't be able to save everyone, but we would like to save you.
