The idea, design, and construction of this sculpture work of His Art Excellency M. Gadalla was selected and sponsored by the Kuwaiti Oil Company (KOC) to become the monument for the Kuwaiti 18th Independence Day (1979) in DawwarAl-Mansouriya, Kuwait City district.
Gadalla was inspired by then Kuwait's victorious past and prosperous present expressed by the sculpture base referring to the prosperity of Kuwait's oil industry and the sword referring to its freedom and victory; dancing with the sword is a major performance during Kuwaiti celebrations and festivals, this dance is call "Al-Rezeef". The sculpture was made with metal and plaster. The size of its base was about 225 square feet and its height was about 70 feet.
Some of the greatest Arabic sculptors visited Gadalla's Sword of Freedom sculpture during its construction like famous Iraqi sculptors Adil Kamil, Mohammed Ghani Hikmat, and others who took many photos for it. Later on, it was imitated in Iraq without Gadalla's permission!
