Alright, Stop. Change. Start. That's how this feels....
We are changing tactics, changing plans (both the architectural and the to do list kind). After yet another bank rejection - once again they agreed our plan was solid, but didn't feel they could help - we decided to take a look at what we are doing and why. in other words, what is the overall picture, and how will we fulfill it?
Put simply, we want to change the landscape of education in the world. And, we want to be a model for what is possible in green building. Since we can't seem, yet, to be able to do this in the way we wanted to, we are looking at a new plan of attack.
In the next couple of weeks, we will have new plans ready for our temporary structure, that will be constructed on the new school site. With careful planning, we will be able to use this new school facility to grow our student population, and will be able to remain in the building while the permanent site is being constructed. We will also be able to re-purpose this structure when the permanent facility is complete, providing solid, energy efficient structures to needy families in the community, or to some other project such as a mobile clinic.
We will still be raising money to fund this structure, even though we already have the revenue stream to pay the loan it would take to construct it. Keeping costs down means more money for fun things like books, field trips, and great school projects. Events will be forthcoming; new plans will be posted as soon as they are ready; requests for help (such as painting days, moving support, etc) will be announced as they arise.
I know I am excited about REALLY moving forward, placing ourselves in a GREEN building, and realizing our goals of having more space to grow.
