Management, as a process, is needed by anyone seeking to achieve specific results.  Management processes can take many forms, but they all entail identifying your current situation, identifying your desired situation, identifying and resourcing your plan to get to your desired situation, and then implementing and adjusting your plan, current situation, and desired situation as they progress and evolve.  All of these management phases require information to be collected, organized, and appropriately shared across these phases, by all those participating.

If diverse endeavors' management information and processes can be linked to a simplified unifying common management process and information structure, then all endeavors can continue to follow their own specific management methods, under their own security and privacy controls, while enabling appropriately-secured joint-endeavor communication, coordination, collaboration, and cooperation at all scales.

The approach for "All Endeavor Management" provided here is called "generalized endeavor management", or the equivalent "General Enterprise Management", with the acronym GEM.

Management Definitions:

  • Basic - Management is the activity of turning chaos into order and maintaining that order.
  • Common - Management is knowing where you are, choosing where you want to be, and changing or influencing whatever you can to achieve and maintain your chosen results.
  • More detailed - Management is knowing your current situation, knowing your intended situation, planning how to achieve your intentions, and then following and adjusting all of these as they evolve over time, until you achieve and maintain your evolved intended situation.
  • More Formal - Management is the adaptive resolution of complexity and diversity in perceptions, science, and society into a simpler dynamic system of evolving controlled order.

GEM is an approach to purposeful work that is generalized so it is reusable in all management situations by any individuals, groups, organizations, or combinations of these that operate using a network of resources.  GEM is a unifying management approach that can be a common foundation for all other diverse management approaches.  GEM implementations can scale from supporting the management of a person's "world" of activities and interests, out to supporting the management of an entire economy, eco-system, business sector, educational base, national endeavor or international endeavors.

Following the GEM process, GEM implementations provide an operational endeavor management architecture (EMA), which is an underlying knowledge structure that enables all endeavors to be selectively and securely connected, translated, integrated, and unified.

In simple terms, GEM enables improved management of any endeavor mission/purpose, and improved collaborative and concurrent management of entire chains and lattices of endeavors.

The GEM approach is now released into the public domain by Roy Roebuck, its inventor and author, at http://gem-ema.one-world-is.org.  Commercial firms are available to assist with GEM training, implementation, and support.
